This yummy spread was born today out of my recent need to liven up my hamburger, which I decided to eat for lunch, without a bun, in a lettuce wrap. It needed some help because I was eating leftovers for two days straight.
What is an “avo-condiment” you ask?
The base of this delicious recipe starts with half an avocado, then I add a few popular condiments I know you already have in your fridge, along with some familiar spices, making this something you can most likely whip up without a run to the grocery store.
Half an avocado, mashed
1/2 TBSP mayo
1/2 TBSP ketchup
1 tsp dill pickle juice
2-3 diced dill pickles
1/4 tsp onion powder
1/4 tsp garlic powder
1/4 tsp paprika
ground pepper to taste
- Begin by halving an avocado, removing the pit, and scooping half into a small mixing bowl.
- Mash avocado using a fork to desired consistency.
- Add mayo, ketchup, pickle juice, diced pickles, onion & garlic powder, paprika, and freshly ground pepper.
- Stir mixture to combine ingredients well.
- Use immediately or place in refrigerator to chill for use later.
If you are a fan of the avocado, and love using condiments, you’re going to love this one. The salty crunch from the pickles adds nice texture, but if you don’t love pickles, feel free to omit this ingredient, pickle juice and all. Feel free to double and triple the recipe if you’re cooking for a crowd, too.
I’d use this tasty spread on other sandwiches like veggie burgers, in chicken or turkey wraps, or even as a dip for french fries or sweet potato fries. I would dip my raw veggies in it, and even add it to my deviled egg recipe as well. I’m sure you’ll think of even more ways to use it because you’re a foodie like me.
“Spread” the word, and maybe one day, my avo-condiment will be found in the doors of refrigerators all around the world. A girl can dream… Until then, a girl can eat.
